Jackson is an
incredibly sweet, extra large lap dog. We believe he is an
Anatolian Shepherd, which is a giant breed known for their
loyalty and often serious demeanor. Please research this
breed first, if you are interested in Jackson. Some helpful
and (brutally) honest breed information can be found here on the
National
Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network website.
At a healthy weight, Jackson will easily weigh 100 pounds or
more; he came to us at a very thin ~85 lbs in September 07.
Jackson was a stray dog, left behind by a horrible and uncaring
previous owner, who moved away and left Jackson to scrounge and
roam around looking for food and water. Thanks to a good
Samaritan nearby, Jackson joined our rescue. Jackson is now
neutered, vaccinated, wormed and on monthly heartworm
prevention. We are estimating his date of birth to be in
October, 2006.
A unique condition about Jackson is that he only has one eye.
His right eye was either injured by a past accident, or perhaps
it never developed when he was a puppy. Our vets gave him a
thorough exam and determined that the missing eye causes him no
pain and no real problems, although he obviously has no vision
at all on that side. Because of this, we will not consider
families with children under the age of 12. This is for
Jackson's safety, as he cannot and would not see a child
rushing up quickly on that side of his body, and he could easily
be startled. He also has no real depth perception. He did not
live with children in the past, so we will err on the side of
caution. A home with no children or only those who are teen-aged
and older would be fine!
This handsome guy can be seen at our public adoption events.
Please see the events schedule posted on our main
Petfinder page. Our dogs and puppies are not "shown" in
their foster home. If you would like to complete an adoption
application, please email us and we'll be happy to send one
right out!
Fully and securely fenced yard required, no exceptions, in the
Kansas City "metro" area only, as we require a home visit /
fence check by one of our volunteers. We are a small,
all-volunteer group based in KC, so we're unable to successfully
do long-distance or out-of-state adoptions. PLEASE do not
email us if you live (long distance) out of state or NOT in the
KC "metro" area; we are not able to respond to such requests.
Please instead use the fabulous Petfinder "search" feature to
look for dogs or puppies closer to your area, or for a shelter
or rescue that IS able to do long-distance adoptions. Other
groups may have the resources or volunteers to cover the entire
U.S., while we focus on the KC "metro" area only. Thank you for
understanding! |
