Cider joined Happy Dogs Rescue in late December
06. We think she is an English Setter/Pointer/Saint (?) mix of some kind, as
she has the "bird dog" behaviors and temperament, but is larger than the
typical female Pointer or Setter. Our vet took one look at this big girl and
said that he thought there may be some St. Bernard in there too! In general,
"bird dogs" are very devoted family members
and like a lot
of human attention. They do need adequate daily exercise and a lot of human
contact, to be content and happy. A safely and fully fenced yard is a
"must," as these breeds of dogs will likely take off on the
chase if given any opportunity.
Cider is extremely loving and friendly, and she has a high energy level. She
loves to chase a ball or stick, but we're
working on the idea of actually "bringing it back!" She is 29" tall at the
shoulder, and weighs around 75 lbs. Cider is spayed and vaccinated, and she
tested negative for heartworms.
She appears to be completely housetrained and she walks pretty well on a
leash. H er
fur in very soft and thick, though she isn't shedding much at this time.
Cider is OK with other dogs, though with her "bird dog" traits, she might
not be suitable for a home with VERY tiny pets or cats. We will do our best
to safely "test her" around such animals in the near future. Please visit
this wonderful girl at one of our public adoption events, or email us for
more information. Cider likes to meet new people and make new friends!
Kansas City "metro" adoptions
only; fenced yard required.
